A few weeks ago, the National
Organization for Women (NOW) endorsed Obama for President. This was not
just a farcical endorsement because a feminist organization had a
chance to endorse a ticket with a woman on it, but because the
organization rarely endorses any tickets. NOW has previously endorsed at the presidential level only four times -- and each time there was a woman on the ticket.
At
the National Press Club, leaders of NOW openly criticized Palin’s
stance on abortion. It wasn’t so much an endorsement of Barrack Obama,
as it was an expression of their loathing of Sarah Palin. The
representatives and leaders of NOW referenced Palin as if she had
committed unspeakable crimes against her own gender.
Seems
odd, after all, this is a feminist organization, right? I thought
feminism is about empowering the weaker gender, joining hands and
breaking the glass ceiling, making all things possible for women. Here
is a woman that is a prime example of truly having it all. So why is
the most well-known feminist organization belittling Palin’s
professional ambitions?
Modern
feminists have closed the door on many women, women who don’t share
their same objectives. Feminism isn’t about women anymore, but the
advancement of the far-left who will stop at nothing to impose their
societal view points down the throat of the American culture. NOW, and
feminist organizations like NOW, care less about women, and more about
their agenda.
NOW Chairman Kim Gandy, at the press conference stated, “The
fact that she opposes abortion even in the case of a child who's been
raped or is a victim of incest. Her positions are so completely out of
touch with those of the majority of American women…” Radical groups
like WOW define the advancement of the women’s movement as making
abortion more acceptable. That is their priority, and what defines the
platform of feminist groups today.
Palin
poses a threat to what defines modern feminism. She is quoted saying,
“Every child has something to contribute to this world, if we give them
that chance.” This was said regarding her new baby Trig, who was born
with Down syndrome.
85%
of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted. This is the
decision that groups like NOW encourage women to make, or at least be
“liberated” enough to make.
When
individuals discredit Sarah Palin’s experience, or intelligence, I
think it is safe to say that this isn’t the real concern, after all,
the Presidential pick of the opposing party has far less executive
experience, if any. It’s those feminists and the left who shake in
their boots at the thought of a woman in office who wants to put a new
face on feminism.
